Shakti Love Notes

We are always growing. I love that! And the more I grow, the more I recognize how important it is for us all to share what we're going through.

So these Love Notes are a space for me to share with you each week-- about the studio, my life, how our community is growing.

Throwback to the last week of 2019:
'We’re on the cusp of a new decade, and I don’t know about you, but there’s some shit I’d like to leave behind.

Anxiety, grasping, scarcity, unease, impatience, resistance, staying silent, fear of abandonment, struggle...

There was a time when I couldn’t articulate what I’d like to leave behind. I was too busy focusing on what I wanted to add on. If I could just add the right thing, maybe it will cover up what’s underneath. That’s the problem with the ‘new year’ though.

Every new year feels like a fresh start. The energy of possibility buzzes in the (typically, but not so much this year) chilled air. It feels like anything is possible. Which is true. At the same time, though, we are bombarded with messages of anything is possible if you cover up what’s underneath.

But what if anything is possible if you air out what’s underneath. What if anything is possible if you let something else go.

What if what’s possible has been deeper underneath what you’ve been hiding, just waiting to be uncovered.'

OK 2019 RUBY - 2020 SURE DID UNCOVER SOME HIDING, DONTCHA THINK

And here we are.

Here we are on the brink of a new year again with the option to leave the old behind and reimagine the new.

Perhaps more than ever POSSIBILITY IS PRESENT.

What are we going to choose to do with it?

What will you leave behind?

What will you create now?

How will you reimagine a better way forward?

Good news is, we're in this together.

I'd love for you to join me for New Year Intention Setting on December 31st at 10am EST -- it's free on Zoom and you can RSVP below --

This time of year can feel hokey.

AND it can also feel POTENT.

The time is always NOW. And I certainly can't pretend to know what the next year will bring but I can look today in the face and say 'I'm here.' And you know what? That's where to start.

See you soon.

xx

The Weekly Work
On a mission to do better on & off the mat

1- Join Mutual Aid Athens on Patreon
"Mutual Aid Athens is an affinity group that offers radical political education and in-person mutual aid care. We’re a queer social anarchist, abolitionist, anti-fascist, anti-capitalist, and anti-colonial community in Athens, GA (Creek land). We have no political party alignment whatsoever.

Every day we help the people of and around Athens, GA build strong networks of local trust and strength. We are all we have. Together we help each other eat, pay bills, check-in to motels or other housing, accompany people to the hospital, provide medical education, provide self-defense education, and connect folks to a network of people in skilled trades, eager to offer help for free or barter. We want to gain and spread autonomy.

Mutual Aid Athens operates a safe house with a refrigerator and freezer for food redistribution, a storage unit for items for local houseless communities, and encourages other mutual aid pods to do the same.

Our work is focused on the needs of houseless folks, low income folks, sex workers, harm reduction, and solidarity with other marginalized neighbors whose circumstances affect their ability to act autonomously.

All funds collected will be used to further this purpose. "
