Shakti Love Notes
We are always growing. I love that! And the more I grow, the more I recognize how important it is for us all to share what we're going through-- even (and especially) me.
So these Love Notes are a space for me to share with you each week-- about the studio, my life, how our community is growing.
Transition is in the air...
I feel like the first kiss of fall comes in with a cool breeze and says 'Change is here. Time to give something up. Create space for something new. And it's gonna happen whether you're ready or not so you might as well get ready. Stop holding on to something that's ready to shift. The time is now.'
And then it'll warm back up for a few days and I let myself hold onto hoping that summer will stay around a little longer, ya know? Inevitably it gets cold for good and I'm left having not pulled out any sweaters or coats so I go cold for a few days before admitting that it's just cold now and I should put on more clothes...
(Am I the only one who does this? lol)
Transitions can feel really tough for me.
The more I practice yoga-- the more I get to know myself on a more subtle level-- the more attuned I have become to what I need in order to have a successful transition.
And let's be honest, life is really just a series of transitions and any ideal about getting from Point A to Point B to Point C and so on is just an illusion...
Specifically I've noticed this subtle attunement when it comes to daily transitions.
Here's an example:
Pre-covid I would drive to the studio before I would teach a class. It's a 5 minute drive max. I would wait until the last minute to leave. Drive to the studio. Immediately get out of the car and go inside-- where there were usually people already-- and start my pre-class duties to be ready to teach 30 minutes later. I'd teach and then immediately come out and go right into the next thing.
I was always in a rush.
Since March I've walked to the studio for almost every class I've taught. It's about a 15 minute walk.
Of course there hasn't been the same energy of people, but to be honest I'm not sure it would matter so much. Walking requires me to leave earlier and plan to get there in plenty of time. It gives me a moment to breathe.
The space created when I go about my day this way leaves me feeling grounded, calm, and present.
Of course we all know that rushing is the antithesis of grounded, calm and present, so it makes sense that simply slowing down would offer those things. And yet...
It feels revolutionary to me.
It feels like honoring the transition.
It feels like being honest.
It feels like taking good care of myself.
And it's so simple.
So I wonder what it would be like to bring that kind of energy to this season change.
I am committed to finding out.
I think I'll start by getting out a few sweaters, keeping my feet warm, getting plenty of rest and taking vitamin c.
I imagine if I do these simple things the transition might not feel so tough.
If I stop holding on to something that's ready to shift, then maybe I can honor the change in a brand new way.
