Shakti Love Notes

We are always growing.  I love that!  And the more I grow, the more I recognize how important it is for us all to share what we're going through-- even (and especially) me.

So these Love Notes are a space for me to share with you each week-- about the studio, my life, how our community is growing.

We’re on the cusp of a new decade, and I don’t know about you, but there’s some shit I’d like to leave behind.

Anxiety, grasping, scarcity, unease, impatience, resistance, staying silent, fear of abandonment, struggle...

There was a time when I couldn’t articulate what I’d like to leave behind. I was too busy focusing on what I wanted to add on. If I could just add the right thing, maybe it will cover up what’s underneath. That’s the problem with the ‘new year’ though.

Every new year feels like a fresh start. The energy of possibility buzzes in the (typically, but not so much this year) chilled air. It feels like anything is possible. Which is true. At the same time, though, we are bombarded with messages of anything is possible if you cover up what’s underneath.

But what if anything is possible if you air out what’s underneath. What if anything is possible if you let something else go.

What if what’s possible has been deeper underneath what you’ve been hiding, just waiting to be uncovered.

There are three themes in Baptiste Yoga:

1- Be a Yes (as an energy of creation)

2- Give Up What You Must (make space for something new)

3- Come From You Are Ready Now (right now is all I’ve got)

I can’t help but think of these themes at the turn of the new year each year.

Be a Yes as an energy of creation, not a concept, doesn’t mean saying ‘yes.’ It means coming into what you want with the energy of ‘yes.’ It means seeing the bigger picture and realizing that maybe there’s something to give up.

Give Up What You Must is the only way to make space for something truly new. It’s like internal spring cleaning.

And once things are clean and spacious, Come From You Are Ready Now. Consider that ‘right now is all I’ve got,’ and go for it.

You have the energy of ‘yes.’ You have fresh space for something new.

You are ready to move forward.

Moving forward into the new year feels extra exciting this year, knowing there are things I choose to leave behind.

So while everyone else may be setting New Year’s resolutions, what if yours looked a little different this year?

+ What will you choose to leave behind in 2019?

+ What does that create space for in 2020?

+ In a single word, what can be your guiding intention for the year?

Sit with it. Write it down. Clear it out. Speak it out loud. Reply to this email, and share it with me!

Here's to a decade of clarity, peace, purpose, & power.

BODY IMAGE & THE HOLIDAYS:
A SURVIVAL GUIDE //
By: Emily Unwin
For context, holidays are hard for me. I feel overwhelmed, cornered, exhausted, and triggered like... 75% of the time from Dec 15-Jan 15. And, in the past, I’ve always seen it as a failure. A feeling of, Damn… Really, I’m still dealing with this disordered eating and body image stuff?
