Shakti Love Notes

We are always growing.  I love that!  And the more I grow, the more I recognize how important it is for us all to share what we're going through-- even (and especially) me.

So these Love Notes are a space for me to share with you each week-- about the studio, my life, how our community is growing.

You are ready now.

I love the holidays. And at the same time it comes with a mixed bag of feelings, obligations, circumstances, and energy.

I was talking to Emily earlier this week about this wacky time of year. It's like we're in a vortex of sorts. Over the last month I've spent more days out of routine than in one. It's like everyone puts 'normal' on pause and we're all expected to smile, do it all, and keep it together.

Inevitably I'm left feeling disoriented. What day is it? What's going on? What is life? Then followed by... Is what I've chosen for my life enough? Will someone say something inappropriate tomorrow? I'm tired. Will my everyday life ever be back to normal again?

Expectations, excitement, anxiety. It feels like a juggling act of joy, grief, and stress. It feels like things starting to unravel a bit.

I used to get worked up about it all.

I'd guilt myself about not maintaining a routine during the holidays. I'd feel disappointed at myself for eating an extra piece of fudge, skipping a workout, or not meditating. Whatever my routine was, if I wasn't doing it no matter what, I was a fraud and a failure.

As I talked with Emily I remembered a teacher talking about how runners, for example, often prepare for a race diligently but less often take proper time to recover. And how that can be applied to most of what we do as people. And how different preparation and recovery look compared to the race.

This week is like the race.

All of the everyday routines you have cultivated have been in preparation for right now. The third theme of Baptiste Yoga is Come From 'You are Ready Now.' Right now. And the turn of the new year will be your time to recover- to jump right back into what works for you.

But for right now... you're in the race. Enjoy it. As much as possible. In whatever possible way.

Take a few deep breaths before the party starts.
Share gratitude with a loved one while you drink your morning coffee together.
Relax. Sleep in.
Go for a short walk with a friend.
Turn the music up and dance.
List something you see, smell, taste, hear, and feel.

And whatever this season brings your way...
Consider that however you show up is perfect.
Consider that you have the tools you need to handle this week.
Consider that all the work you've done is progress that
cannot be undone.
Consider that you are ready for whatever is coming your way next year.
Consider that you are right on time and ready now.

See you at the finish line.

xx
