Shakti Love Notes
We are always growing. I love that! And the more I grow, the more I recognize how important it is for us all to share what we're going through-- even (and especially) me.
So these Love Notes are a space for me to share with you each week-- about the studio, my life, how our community is growing.
Be gentle with yourself.
That's all. I just want to remind you of that. To be gentle with yourself today. And this week.
Hold your own heart tenderly.
Slow down.
Listen.
Receive.
For me this has looked like balancing time with people with time alone, slowing (everything) down, paying attention to my dreams, offering gratitude, asking for higher guidance, taking baby steps, leaning into simplicity, deep breaths, and not getting on instagram.
+ Consider what it is that you need from yourself in order to feel deeply cared for?
+ What does it look like to take good care of you?
+ What's it costing you when you don't do this?
+ What does taking good care of yourself offer you?
Lean in.
And give yourself grace.
xx

PS- I'm right here. Just hit reply. I'd love to hear from you. :)

2. Take care of yourself. This week will be stressful, no matter what. Collectively there's a lot at play. Be proactive about not overbooking yourself, build in time for self-care, check on your loved ones, stay connected and set boundaries on your screen time. Go outside. Have a plan for yourself. SHAKTI TEAM LOVE NOTE <3
The Reminiscence Bump by Jensen Toney
I want to preface this love note with saying that time is a construct and it is not real. Now let’s get into the juice!
I was on my daily walk yesterday soaking up the fallen leaves, the Halloween decorations, the perfect 66°F weather, and really admiring my neighborhood and just feeling grateful. Then I started thinking more zoomed out, more philosophical, more societal, and was thinking about the year as a whole. And I began to realize how eventful this whole year has been: personally, in my family’s life, and my friends’ lives, in the life of the nation, and in the whole world. Everyone from my point of view, is going through major shifts, major changes, major life adaptations. Whether it be career related, relationship, environmental/ living, this is a big year for all involved.
Then I remembered this phenomenon that I learned about a few years ago. I had to Google the name of this but it’s called the Reminiscent Bump. It says that people remember more events from late adolescence and early adulthood and than any other stage in life.
What this means is that as you get older less “big” events happened to you directly and life seems to just fly by because you are not remembering as much of it. It becomes routine. For example, older people tend to describe their old age as going by “in the blink of an eye” but they can remember their teenage years and their early adulthood years vividly as if they happened yesterday. They describe time when they were younger as being slowed down.
But time isn’t really changing all that much. There are still 365 days in a year, and 24 hours in a day, and 60 seconds in an hour. Time is not the factor that is changing, it is the memories of the people inquiring on the time.
And if you think about it this phenomenon makes sense. In your teenage years youre hitting all kind of life-altering milestones that are changing the directionality of your life. Meanwhile, people beyond retirement age are not feeling grand-jestureesk transformations.
I thought about how the Reminiscence Bump relates to this year. I realized that for a very long time I am going to feel 24-years-old. It is my age this year, it is the year that a lot of things happened to me, happened for me, and happened around me. This year will have a distinct and ever-present memory in my mind. No matter if you’ve never heard of this phenomenon before, I cannot help thinking that many people will relate to how I am feeling right now and how I have felt this entire year (and the months to follow). We coin years as our “glow up year” or “our Jordan year” or sometimes “the worst year ever” ......
What will you call this year ?
