Shakti Love Notes

We are always growing. I love that! And the more I grow, the more I recognize how important it is for us all to share what we're going through-- even (and especially) me.

So these Love Notes are a space for me to share with you each week-- about the studio, my life, how our community is growing.

By Tuesday of last week I was riding a shame spiral that took the rest of the week to sort through.

3:24pm : Text Message : Me : I'm in full vulnerability hangover mode today.
3:49pm : Text Message: KM : Shoot you are?! What's the biggest piece of that you think?

What I saw at the very bottom was clear
--Am I even being a good enough human?--

What I felt on the way down was a whole lotta things...
--Who am I to own a business?--
--Am I even qualified to lead Leaders? Says who?--
--What if I'll never do enough to help people--
--Where will I be in 10 years?-- 5 years? -- What's my plan?--
--How will I financially support myself longterm?--
--Will my business make it?--
--What's the point of yoga if people don't 'get it'?--
--Does my work even matter in the grander scheme of our hurting world?--
--If I'm the person who makes people uncomfortable, then no one will want to be around me--
--This is white fragility at its finest--

--What if people don't show up--

Y'ALL. I wish I was kidding. By Wednesday night I was teary-eyed and elbows-deep in self-pity listening to a rainy day playlist (sounds like Drive-By Truckers, Ryan Adams, & Tracy Chapman).

Good news is that by Thursday morning I started to regain my sense of equanimity.

I have friends who love me, listen, and ask questions to thank for that.

Also teaching yoga helps. All week I taught about drishti, the yoga word for gaze or focus. I shared with my classes about how I always feel anxious and overwhelmed when there are too many tabs open on my computer. To be aware of this is great, but what next? To choose a clear focus and take action, that's what. (It took me until Saturday to close the 23 tabs that were lingering on my laptop lol)

Those tabs were a clear reflection of the tabs I had opened in my mind and a reminder to do more than just notice... Instead I can notice and choose how to move forward.

I think growth looks a lot like this... Awareness --> Acceptance --> Action

I don't think it should be comfortable. That's why it's important to have friends who love, listen, and ask questions. (Looking at you this week Kate Moore, Molly Chandler, Amy Lawrence, Katie Waters, Jake Reuse) It's going to be uncomfortable and we gotta keep moving forward. Together. One step at a time.

And of course I trust that my work matters. I trust that I am a good enough human being. I trust that I'll be exactly where I should be in 10 years.

I trust that ups will be up and downs will be downs and tomorrow will be tomorrow while today is still today.

Cheers to G R O W T H for always being a ride worth taking!

xx
