Shakti Love Notes

We are always growing. I love that! And the more I grow, the more I recognize how important it is for us all to share what we're going through-- even (and especially) me.

So these Love Notes are a space for me to share with you each week-- about the studio, my life, how our community is growing.

Thanksgiving did not meet my expectations.

All week leading up to the holiday I talked about releasing expectations. Almost every class I taught circled around this theme in some way. 'When I arrive without expectations, I notice that I am happier.' I talked about this in class because I was preparing myself to remember this lesson...

And then...

Thanksgiving day was lovely. It was the perfect day off. I woke up in my mom's warm house. I sipped coffee by the fireplace surrounded by the people I love most. I steeped in gratitude for the life I have created and the community I get to be part of. We went for a hike by the lake. We ate, hugged, laughed, shared gratitude -- most popular answer: family. I visited Jake's family, ate some pie. And ended the day with my mom and sister and Hugh Grant. (see: Love Actually)

Friday morning I drove back to Athens and taught a full, smiling class and spent the rest of the day (and weekend) kinda doing nothing.

It felt like a giant sigh.

And in that relief I realized that in dropping my expectation for the holiday to be 'perfect' I had picked up the expectation for the holiday to be 'a disaster.'

woof.

Granted, this kind of 'expectation disappointment' is the preferable type of letdown. But I had really added stress to the days leading up to Thanksgiving by sort of dreading the 'hassle.' I could have saved quite a bit of energy if I had truly arrived without any expectation at all, ready to give & receive with an open heart.

It's silly to worry about something that hasn't even happened yet. And you know what else... once I was at my mom's, I wasn't worried-- I was present.

It feels like the difference between gripping something tightly and holding something in the palms of my open hands.

I am very grateful for the ease I find in the present moment. I give myself permission to take each day as it comes and to enter into this season with an open heart, ready to give & receive.

Here's wishing you the same, honey.

xx

Beyond the mat...

We love Athens.
And we love you.
So let's have more of that-- together.

Here's where you can see what we're up to outside of the studio.

Have ideas about where we should be / what we should check out / how we can show up?

recap:Thanksgiving
We love when town is buzzing, but we also love holidays in Athens. Thanks for showing up on your mat during such a low-key & cold week in Athens. It's our joy to be a space for movement and gratitude in your everyday life... even during the holidays.

We are so grateful for you!
