Shakti Love Notes
We are always growing. I love that! And the more I grow, the more I recognize how important it is for us all to share what we're going through-- even (and especially) me.
So these Love Notes are a space for me to share with you each week-- about the studio, my life, how our community is growing.
Do the thing, and you'll have the power.
That's what Baron kept saying last week at Level One training with the Baptiste Institute in Phoenecia, New York.
I discovered a lot about myself last week at Level One, and this one shook me up.
When I think about the moments or spans of time in my life when I've felt most powerful, most capable, most me, they have been the times when I've 'done the thing.'
...when I asked for a job at Shakti Nashville, when I moved to LA, when I moved to Athens, when I opened my own business, when I traveled to Peru 6 months after I opened my business, when I signed up for Level One...
..and even in smaller ways...
...when I wake up at my first alarm, when I drive to yoga and roll out my mat, when I buy the groceries to try a new recipe, when I initiate tough conversations, when I look someone in the eyes and allow myself to be seen...
There is power - real, miracle-making power - power with and for, and not over - power that is available right now - through action.
Do the thing, and you'll have the power. Not 'wait for the thing to happen.' Not 'try the thing.' Not 'ask around about what people think about the thing.'
Do the thing.
It makes me wonder:
What's here for me right now? What's the thing to be done? What's possible?
There is the ability to move energy in doing the thing.
There is the opportunity for clearing.
There is space for creation.
There is vitality.
There is trust.
It's right here, right now, ready to be opened up.
Here's to doing the damn thing and standing in power.
xx

And we love you.
So let's have more of that-- together.
Here's where you can see what we're up to outside of the studio.

Inquiry Corner w/ Emily
Meditation Month!
Hi everyone, Emily here! If you’re new to inquiry, this looks like moving through questions, prompts, activities, and conversations that help you learn more about yourself. I’m excited you’re here!
Meditation month is here, yeehaw!
There's a lot to cover about why meditation, how meditation, what's meditation...
So, I'll be spending the month of August offering inquiry themed around meditation month.
If you'd like more info, check out our IGTV for informational videos on meditation.
How can you personalize meditation to fit your needs and strengths?
Meditation can take many shapes: Sitting in silence, focusing on your breath, practicing mantras, reading Tarot cards, prayer, movement, yoga nidra (iRest), restorative, journalling, guided, unguided...
I like to think meditation has so many iterations because we're all so different. Our needs and how we feel most restful is different, too, day in day out.
In the practice of meditation, especially when I first began, I thought it had to be hard. But once I started using mantras, mala beads, yoga, gratitudes, and journalling, meditation felt intuitive and necessary. Whereas before, it felt arduous and like a chore.
This week, think about things in your life that feel supportive, restful, and like a turning in.
Consider:
-- What practices make me feel at peace? Are they meditative, in a sense?
-- How can I incorporate these practices into my daily life?
-- What about something I haven't tried before? What sounds interesting that I need the extra push to try? (This is your push :) )

* At Shakti we are actively committed to questioning bias, blind spots, and unconscious discrimination through inquiry within and outside of the Shakti team. Shakti teachers commit to acting in allyship for POCs and marginalized communities. We are committed to showing up and stepping into discomfort in order to open the closed doors that house internal bias and discrimination.
